October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month

Why does your Social Service organization need Cyber Liability protection?

In today’s data-driven world where sensitive information is stored and transferred electronically, organizations of all sizes are vulnerable to costly and damaging liabilities from data security breaches that are occurring at alarming and growing rates. Any donor information, your internal database and your financial information can very well be subject to such security breaches.

Whether data is compromised by a hacker, virus, cyber thief, or simply because of lost or stolen computers, laptops, flash drives or smart phones, a breach can have serious ramifications. There are substantial financial costs involved in finding and remedying a breach, including the cost of notifying customers, possible fines and legal expenses. Breach notification is legally mandated in almost all states. The organization can also suffer immense damage to its reputation and from the interruption to business.

Your first line of defense in ensuring protection from a cyber security breach is securing Cyber Liability coverage for your organization.  Need more information?  Please contact Hawley & Associates today!

Claims-Made vs. Occurrence Forms

A clear understanding of both types of coverage is crucial in making an informed decision on which type of coverage to buy.  When one coverage is recommended over the other, in certain situations, it is not a matter of what is recommend but what the markets will allow.  For certain types and kinds of coverage a claims-made form is the industry norm. It could include the following coverage's:

  • Directors & Officer Liability
  • Employment Practices Liability
  • Fiduciary Liability and Employee Benefits Liability

These are examples of some types of coverage's that are predominately written on a claims-made form.  That being said, Professional Liability, Sexual Abuse Liability and to a lesser degree General Liability coverage may at times be written on a claims made form...

Our client, ReStart Life, provides treatment for individuals suffering from addiction and problematic use of the internet, video games and technology. It is the first center in the country to specialize in this type of addiction.

They recently purchased their second location in East King County in Washington State and is named Serenity Mountain. On March 19th, they held a volunteer day in hopes of better preparing the property and grounds for it's grand opening sometime in June.

TJ Armstrong, H&A's Business Development Manager, volunteered her time (as well as her son's, Cayden). They both worked on painting, working in the greenhouse and gardens and other various projects. They were so honored to be a part of something bigger than themselves and to help jump start this venture of bettering the lives of others.

Thank you, Restart Life and Cosette Rae (Executive Director) for allowing us to be a part of such a special day and your amazing mission!

Community Service Spans Generations at Hawley & Associates

At Hawley & Associates, community service is in our blood and it sets us apart from other insurance brokerages.  It's both a personal and professional commitment that each one of our employees shares and it warms our hearts when we see future generations taking on this passion as well.

H&A's Operations Manager, Tammy Christensen's son, Nick Dumas, is taking this passion to heart.  He is currently touring with the Grammy nominated band, the Special Consensus Bluegrass band.  They recently had a two week tour in California and they made a special stop at the Valley Children's Hospital in Madera , Ca. to perform for young patients and their families, many of which have never seen these types of instruments before, let alone have heard bluegrass music.  They also performed a benefit concert for Valley Children's at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Fresno, CA.

Enjoy the video of the performance!
